Does yellow teeth make you look old?
If you want to look young, you should take good care of your teeth, a study shows.
Having bad teeth can make you look old, a UK study has revealed.
The study was conducted using photos of a female model. The photographs were two identical pictures of a smiling woman – one with gleaming white teeth and another with edited stained, yellow teeth. They asked 2,000 people to describe the age of the woman in the two photos.
The results
They found out that having bad teeth can age a woman by as much as 13 years.
The respondents guessed that the woman with gleaming white teeth was approximately 31 years old, while, on the other photo, the woman was judged to be at 44 years old. Both of these pictures involve the same woman.
‘Teeth are one of the first things we notice about a person. When people don’t look after their teeth, they tend not to smile, which can give off a bad impression.” Dental ambassador for Oral B, Dr Phil Stemmer said. The study is called the Oral-B Smile Report
“The research highlights the importance the appearance of your teeth can have on the way people perceive you. Teeth are important to the way you look and how confident you feel but it also has an impact on your overall health which can often be overlooked.” Stemmer added.
Other effects of white teeth
The study also found that people with nice teeth tend to earn more.
85 percent of adults with bad teeth are expected to earn between £10,000 and £50,000-a-year while 82 per cent said those with good teeth would earn between £25,000 and £75,000.
39 percent of respondents believe that having good teeth is linked to career success.
It also revealed that 80 percent of respondents believe that people with conditioned teeth are more likely to get hired in the current economic state.
You should take care of your teeth to have that killer smile that you always want. A researcher found that drinking coffee and smoking coupled with poor oral hygiene can ruin your smile and make you look old.
