Bad Breath and Tooth Decay
Besides other underlying cause, the most likely culprit for people suffering with chronic bad breath is tooth decay.
Untreated and undiagnosed Tooth decay is one of the leading causes of bad breath. Even a small amount of dental decay can produce a foul odor.
How do you know if you have Tooth Decay?
The symptoms of tooth decay are generally not recognizable until the decay is so severe that the tooth’s nerve is already affected causing toothaches. However, early stages of tooth decay can be identified and be prevented from worsening by your dentist.
How do you get Tooth Decay?
Tooth decay, or dental caries, occurs when residues of food particles build up on the tongue and gums as well as between the teeth, providing a medium for bacteria to grow.
Carbohydrates from the food you eat are broken down into sugar by your saliva. Bacterium then digests sugar and produces acids that attack the dental enamel leading to tooth decay.
How do you treat Tooth Decay?
-
- Your dentist can treat your Tooth Decay by repairing the cavity that has formed in your tooth. First, the dentist will remove the decayed area of the tooth and then restore the affected tooth to its original shape and function through the use of a dental filling. Light cure filling.
- If the damage to your tooth is so severe that it cannot be saved, your dentist may need to replace it with a man-made tooth called a crown.
- In instances where the decay has penetrated the tooth enamel and has already entered the pulp of the tooth, your dentist may need to perform a procedure called a root canal. A root canal is procedure that removes the damaged pulp and/or the nerve of the tooth
- When your tooth can no longer be saved due to the extent of decay, your dentist may already have to extract the entire tooth.
What is a light cure filling?
A light cure filling is a tooth-colored dental filling used to restore decayed teeth. It is also called a Composite Filling, a mixture of acrylic resin and powdered glass-like particles that may be self-hardening or may be hardened by exposure to blue light.
What are the advantages of a light cure filling?
Aesthetics are the main advantage of composites, since dentists can blend shades to create a color nearly identical to that of the actual tooth. Since it is the color of your teeth, composite fillings may generally be used on either front or back teeth.
A composite light cured filling is a relatively strong material that provides good durability in small to mid sized restorations that need to withstand moderate chewing pressure. Since it is very flexible, it also permits the preservation of as much of the tooth as possible.
