Digital X-rays

Our clinics are equipped with the latest digital x-rays or radiographs. A dental x-ray is an essential part of any dental treatment. It helps dentists detect, diagnose, treat and monitor oral conditions and diseases better.

Compared to traditional x-rays, digital radiographs are much much safer. Digital x-rays use 50% – 80% less radiation compared to traditional film x-rays. The level of radiation you are exposed too is actually equivalent to the radiation you get riding an airplane (1-2 hours flight). The level of exposure is further reduced with proper shielding. Patients undergoing x-ray are required to wear protective lead aprons as part of our radiation safety protocols.

The following types of digital dental X-rays are available at our clinics:

    1. Periapical X-ray

Periapical X-ray shows an individual tooth’s structure in great detail from the crown, to the root tips up to the supporting bone of the   jaw. The x-ray is normally taken from inside the mouth of the patient.

Periapical x-rays are commonly used as an important aid for tooth extractions, restorations and root canal treatments. It is also      used to detect endodontic lesions (abscess) and reveal conditions such as periodontitis and advanced gum disease.

    2. Panoramic X-ray

Panoramic X-ray on the other hand, shows the entire mouth. The image includes all the teeth in the upper and lower arch. The radiograph image is taken from outside the mouth with the use of a machine that rotates around the entire head of the patient.

It is used by dentists to detect impacted wisdom teeth, identify jaw problems, monitor tooth development in children, plan treatment for dental implants, and diagnose bony tumors and cysts.

    3. Cephalometric X-ray

Cephalometric X-Ray is a radiograph image that shows the entire head of the patient. It is commonly used by Orthodontists to examine teeth in relation to a patient’s jaw and profile.

Your digital x-rays can be viewed instantly on any computer screen, be stored and archived digitally in our servers, be printed on photographic paper or be electronically transmitted to you without any loss in terms of clarity and quality.
