Prosthodontics

Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the replacement of missing teeth. Its objective is to restore and improve the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of the patient.

Why should you replace missing teeth? A missing tooth is not just an empty gap on your smile. Missing teeth can have a serious impact on your oral health, the way you feel about yourself and the quality of your life.

Missing teeth can make your other teeth move and create spaces in between. It can also alter the way you look and make you feel self-conscious about yourself. In terms of your health, missing teeth can make it difficult for you to eat and chew a variety of foods that you need to be properly nourished.

Dental implants are the best way to replace your missing teeth because it also prevents bone loss. However, not all are candidates for dental implants. Dental implants can also be expensive especially if you are missing several teeth.

The good news is there are other more affordable options available to replace your missing teeth. Ask our dentists about what type of dentures will best suit you.

  • Complete Dentures
A full denture, or complete denture, is a removable prosthesis that can be used to replace all teeth within an arch. The artificial teeth are made out of porcelain or acrylic and are held together by an acrylic base.A complete denture is one of the cheapest ways to replace missing teeth and can be manufactured at a very short period of time.
  • Removable Partial Dentures
If you are missing a single tooth or several teeth within an arch, a removable partial denture might be right for you.Like complete dentures, a removable partial denture is also made of porcelain or acrylic artificial teeth. Since not all the teeth are missing, a removable partial denture utilizes wire clasps to anchor the denture with the remaining natural teeth.
  • Fixed Dental Bridge
Dental bridges literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A dental bridge can be used for cases where natural teeth still exist on both sides of the gap created by missing teeth.A dental bridge is also a partial denture but is fixed and not removable. It is held in place by dental crowns (called abutments) that are cemented unto the natural teeth on the two ends. Because they are fixed, a dental bridge makes oral care, eating and speaking easier compared to wearing a removable denture.
