Affinity Dental will be providing over 3,000 Senior Citizens of our country with free dental consultations using the Intra Oral Camera technology in the first ever Senior Citizens Expo & National Convention on March 26, 2011 at the Olivarez Coliseum in Paranaque City.

We believe that taking care of your teeth is a priority no matter what your age is to prevent serious dental conditions specially as you get older. Many diseases of the body have symptoms that appear in the oral cavity. Through regular dental exams, dentists’ can help monitor the health of Seniors by detecting possible symptoms or oral manifestations of heart disease, liver Disease, eating disorders, anemia, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis and even HIV.

Further, Senior Citizens have several dental conditions that may become more prevalent if their special dental care needs are not monitored through regular dental check ups.

Gum disease is prevalent in the elderly. Diabetes may reduce the senior’s ability to fight the bacteria that gets trapped around the teeth. The gums may become inflamed and teeth become loose.

Proper Dentures is another concern for the elderly. Dentures that do not fit correctly can cause pain and lead to loss of appetite. Loss of appetite will lead to poor nutrition and illness. Dentures need to be refitted regularly because the jaw reshapes itself continually when the teeth are not there to hold it in place.

Oral cancer is another common disease among Seniors. A dentist can find cancer during an exam. Early detection is important in cancer survival rates.

Lastly, Senior Citizens experience dry mouth due to prescription medications they take. Dry mouth leads to less saliva in the mouth which impairs their ability to keep bacteria from building up and causing tooth decay.
