Top 5 Causes of Yellow Teeth
Yellow teeth? You might be guilty of these
Everybody knows that smoking and drinking coffee, tea, soda, and red wine could cause teeth staining. But did you know that there are other culprits? You might not realize you’re doing something that could lead to teeth discoloration. Check out these possible causes of yellowing so you could start avoiding them:
1. Eating dark berries
The chromogens in dark berries like blueberries, blackberries, and pomegranates can leave marks on your teeth. Strawberries, on the other hand, can fight staining because of its acid content. You can even mash it and mix with a pinch of baking soda to come up with a natural teeth-whitening paste. Leave it on the surface of your teeth for 1-2 minutes before rinsing.
2. Taking certain drugs
There are certain prescription drugs like tetracycline, minocycline, and doxycycline (all of them antibiotics) that are known to discolour teeth. Good to note too that this type of staining happens deep in the enamel so it is likely that regular whitening products and procedures won’t work.
3. Using a mouthwash with ingredients that stain
Chlorhexidine and cetylpyridinium chloride are common teeth-staining ingredients found in some mouthwash solutions. So check the label before buying a bottle.
4. Having too much curry
Curry can yellow the teeth over time, so don’t have it too often or have too much of it. It would be helpful to have curry with a lot of fruits and veggies like celery, apples, carrots, and potatoes; and even starches like rice or pasta.
5. Loving balsamic vinegar
Liquids that are naturally dark, especially those that are strong or acidic like balsamic vinegar, can cause yellowing of the teeth. Dentists suggest brushing after a meal that contains dishes made with these dark liquids. It would also help to eat a lot of starches, veggies, and fruits to limit the staining.
