Restoring your teeth with Crowns and Bridges.

About Dentures

How do you restore your smile with Crowns and Bridges?

It’s hard to feel confident about yourself and your smile when you have worn out, damaged or missing teeth. Thankfully, modern dental technology can provide with options to restore your smile with dental crowns and bridges.

Repairing damaged teeth with dental crowns.

A dental crown is normally your best option to save a tooth that has lost a significant amount of its structure from tooth decay or injury. The dental crown fortifies and restores the damaged tooth to look and function like a natural tooth.

The process may require a couple of visits to the dentist. On your first visit, the dentist will prepare your tooth by shaping it to fit the crown. After the tooth is prepared, your dentist will take an impression. The dentist will send the impression of your tooth to a dental laboratory to create a crown that is tailor-fitted and crafted to fit the prepared tooth. The crown may either be made of porcelain, metal, porcelain fused to metal (a combination of the two) or zirconia.

Since the dental crown might take a few days to finish, your dentist will be attaching a temporary crown on the prepared tooth before you go home. By your next visit, the permanent crown will already be cemented and bonded to your tooth.

Replacing missing teeth with implants or bridges.

When a tooth is beyond repair and has to be extracted already or if your tooth is already missing, there are two excellent options to replace them:

The first option is a dental implant. A dental implant with a crown is considered by most professionals to be the best solution.

The next best option is a three-unit fixed bridge using the natural teeth on either side of the gap. These teeth are crowned and then used to support another crown in between bridging the space. If you have several missing teeth, a longer bridge can be created to fill a larger gap.

Your crown or bridgework should feel comfortable and blend with your natural teeth. Restored teeth require the same conscientious care as the rest of your teeth. Be sure to brush and floss every day to reduce the build-up of dental plaque. This will help keep your smile looking great for years to come.
