Oral Care Tips for the Summer Season
The sun is up high, temperatures are rising, children don’t have school for two more months, people are planning for their weekend getaways — summer is definitely here.
And as with all the merriment that summer brings, a high amount of parties, outings, and celebrations might expose you and your children to extensive sugary food and drink, such as candies, ice cream, and sodas. Here are some suggestions on how to beat the summer heat while keeping good oral health:
Always carry water
Summer is often associated with hot weather, so keeping hydrated is essential to your overall health. However, drinking water after that iced tea or ice cream also goes a long way in protecting your teeth.
Sugar free gum is your best friend
After each snack and meal, try to chew on some sugar free gum, which cleans up the little bits and pieces of food left on your teeth. It’s a great supplement to brushing while currently out of the house.
Schedule checkups at the start of the season
To diagnose and prevent further oral problems during the summer season, it is best to set an appointment at the onset of summer. This way, dentists may recommend dental care tips, as well as help fully clean the mouth on day one. No one likes a toothache in the middle of summer.
Snack healthy
Stock up your fridge with fruits like apples and grapes for a sweet and refreshing treat in case someone goes hungry. It’s a better alternative to other sugars — and is also healthier!
