Newborn baby has teeth, shocks parents
Natal Teeth: A one in 2,000 chance, a baby girl was born with two fully formed bottom front teeth, which shocked her parents.
Three days after Christmas, Alyssa Bailey was born with an extra present for her parents: two perfectly formed bottom front teeth. Her parents were shocked to see this rare occurrence. Jaklina Bailey, her mother, said that even doctors and nurses at the hospital in Branson, Missouri were impressed to see Baby Alyssa’s two front teeth.
“Right when she first arrived, everybody was just shocked,” Bailey told ABC7. ‘She has two front teeth? No kidding? Really?’
It was just a big talk about it in the delivery room. The unusual birth created a cheery stir in the delivery room and her birth was featured in different news websites. Readers were delighted to see this unique feature. According to Mrs. Bailey’s doctor, it is only the second time she experienced to see a baby with two perfectly formed front teeth. The doctor is in 25 years of professional practice.
Why are some babies born with teeth?
According to doctors, the development of natal teeth, the occurrence of babies having teeth at time of their birth, is about one in every 2,000 births. In these cases, doctors normally remove the unstable teeth because the infant might choke when swallowed. Dr. Laura Corio, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology, told ABC News “Teeth can be present in oral cavities at birth and may be related to certain other health problems but not always.” Baby’s Alyssa’s teeth are not cause of alarm for the doctors, Fox News reported.
Her parents decided that they would not remove the teeth. They would closely watch its development in case it would become a safety hazard for their baby, ABC news reported. When they do fall out, she will grow her teeth normally just like other babies. Most babies start teething at around six months old.
