Dental Implants: A Guide for Your Renewed Smile
If you’ve recently lost a tooth because of an injury or tooth decay, dental implants is the best treatment option that can restore your natural and youthful smile.
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root. It is placed in your jaw to hold artificial teeth. You don’t have to worry because it is made of titanium that is biocompatible with your mouth.
When you lose a tooth, some of the bone that supports your tooth is also lost. Dental implants act as a stabilizer for your jaw.
Costs
Implants typically cost a hefty price. The price usually depends on the doctor, surgeon, and how many implants you would like to place. Average costs in the US is around $4,000 per tooth for implant.
Dental tourism
Some patients choose to travel to other countries to have cheaper tooth implants. Philippines, Africa, India, and Eastern Europe are some of the places that offer budget-friendly implants.
Process
Before doing the surgery, there are preliminary tests that your dentists will do. Your dentist or surgeon will examine the areas that require dental implants. They first have to check if your gums are healthy to hold the implant. A bone graft is required if you don’t have sufficient gum density.
Usually, there would be three stages for the surgical process:
The first procedure is done at the dentist’s clinic. The first implant is inserted into the jaw to hold your gums. The healing process usually takes 4-6 months. The second phase is placing a cover on the first implant. It is called abutment-post that penetrates through the gums and connects the replacement tooth.
It typically takes 2-6 weeks after the second phase to start the third procedure. In this phase, your new replacement teeth are created and fitted. This phase involves a series of appointments to your dentist to assure that the new implant is fit to your gums.
