Cracked Tooth Syndrome

Cracked tooth syndrome is the instance when a tooth has a crack which is too small to be detected in X-Rays, or is hidden under the gum.
Simply put, cracked tooth syndrome occurs when a teeth has damage that is not detectable via normal methods.
When you experience pain when you bite or chew without any loose teeth, this may be the first sign of cracked tooth syndrome. The difference between cracked tooth syndrome and normal cavities is that the pain is only temporary, unlike the persistent ache of cavities.
Because of its difficulty to detect, it may persist for months undetected. Another common sign is when pieces of a tooth fall off for no apparent reason.
Causes
Experts have identified the following to be likely causes of cracked tooth syndrome:
- grinding and clenching teeth
- pressuring the teeth
- excess fillings in teeth
- those that have previously undergone root canal treatment.
Prevention
The easiest way to prevent cracked tooth syndrome is to consult a professional about how to stop teeth clenching and grinding. Most professionals will recommend a mouthpiece that prevents teeth from touching, which must be worn while sleeping and when doing day-to-day activities.
Treatment
This condition may require a specialized treatment, depending on the location, depth, and size of the crack.
No two cases are the same, so professional help should be sought.
Some cases of the syndrome may need root canal treatment, while some may just need tooth extraction.
