Invisalign

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign revolutionizes the way we traditionally correct orthodontic problems.  Instead of using metal or ceramic braces and wires, Invisalign teeth and corrects bite with a series of clear aligners.

Clear aligners are transparent thin plastic trays that apply constant force to the teeth to move them into place until desired results are achieved. If you want to have a beautiful smile without having to wear traditional braces then Invisalign may be right for you.

What orthodontic problems can Invisalign treat?

Invisalign can address a number of dental conditions including:

  • Crooked Teeth – Teeth are not aligned. Simple teeth alignment problems can easily be treated with clear aligners.
  • Crowded Teeth – There is not enough space in your jaw for your teeth to fit resulting into overlapping and twisting of teeth.
  • Gap Teeth – There are spaces between two or more of your teeth that create pockets where food can get stuck.
  • Overbite – Your upper front teeth overlap with your lower front teeth.
  • Underbite – Your lower front teeth are in front of your upper teeth.
  • Crossbite – Your upper teeth are sitting inside your lower teeth when you close your mouth.
  • Open Bite – Your upper and lower teeth don’t touch when your mouth is closed.

Invisalign is an effective treatment option for many people. However, because it uses less force than conventional braces treatment, it may not be for people with severe orthodontic issues. The best way to know if Invisalign is right for you is to visit us for a consultation.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

Invisalign is revolutionizing orthodontics. Here are some of the reasons why Invisalign has become the most popular and the best alternative to traditional braces.

    • Looks better than braces

The biggest advantage of Invisalign is appearance. Compared to conventional braces, Invisalign clear aligners are barely noticeable. Invisalign is the perfect choice for people who are very conscious of how conventional orthodontic treatment can impact both their professional and social lives.

    • You can remove it when you need to

Unlike conventional braces that are attached to your teeth, Invisalign clear aligners are completely removable. They do not affect your daily normal activities such as speaking, eating or playing sports. You can remove them when you need to.

    • Does not cause discomfort

Invisalign clear aligners are smooth and comfortable. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign clear aligners do not have wires and sharp edges that can puncture and scratch the tissues in your mouth.

    • Does not exert excessive force

Unlike conventional braces that exerts excessive force to move your teeth into position, Invisalign clear aligners applies gentle forces to move teeth. It does not cause the same amount of pain or discomfort as traditional braces.

    • Reduces Damage to Teeth and Gums

Conventional braces are very difficult to clean which can make your teeth prone to tooth decay and demineralization. Invisalign are removable which means you can brush and floss your teeth normally.

    • Improves Oral Health

As an orthodontic treatment, Invisalign corrects abnormal bite functions and aligns crooked, gapped, or crowded teeth.

Invisalign helps you achieve better oral health by addressing orthodontic problems that can cause tooth decay, periodontal disease, tooth loss, TMJ pain and even difficulties in speaking and/or eating,

Having straighter teeth means a having a much healthier mouth. Improvements in appearance go hand in hand with significant health advantages.

What is the process of having Invisalign?

Compared to having traditional braces, Invisalign does not require monthly adjustments and visits to your dentist. The process is fast, simple and convenient.

    1. Consultation

The first step to having Invisalign is consultation.  During the consultation, our dentist will personally examine your teeth, evaluate your case, advise you of your options and create a detailed treatment plan for you.

Photographs, x-rays and a dental impression of your teeth will also be taken during your consult.

    2. Invisalign Treatment Plan

Using your dental impression, Invisalign will create a three-dimensional model and a computerized treatment plan that will show you the movement required for your teeth to achieve the desired end result.

    3. Fabrication of the Clear Aligners

Once the proposed treatment plan is approved, Invisalign will proceed to fabricate your clear aligners in the United States. The number of aligners made will depend on the case of the patient.

    4. Preparing your Teeth

On your next appointment, the dentist will install the “precision attachments” made of composite on your teeth.  These attachments will help your teeth move more efficiently and effectively with the clear aligners.

Your dentist may also perform “interproximal reductions” during the appointment. Interproximal reduction removes a fraction of a millimeter of enamel to create sufficient space between your teeth. The spaces will help to move your teeth to their desired position or alignment. After preparing your teeth, the dentist will then provide you with detailed instructions on how to use and take care of your clear aligners before sending you home.

    5. Treatment Period

The success of your Invisalign treatment depends largely on your compliance as a patient. Your clear aligners must be worn for 20-22 hours per day for a period of at least 2 weeks before you progress to wearing the next set of aligners.

Your dentist will recall you for appointments every 4 to 6 weeks to check the progress of your treatment. The entire treatment period may take 9 to 18 months to complete depending on your case.

    6. Clear Retainers

Once you’ve successfully transformed your smile and completed the treatment, the next step will be for you to maintain the alignment of your teeth with clear retainers.

Vivera clear retainers are virtually invisible. They are custom-made with the same material and technology used by Invisalign to align your smile.

Congratulations on your new smile! The process is finished.

How to take care of your Invisalign clear aligners?

Here are some tips on how you should properly care for your Invisalign clear aligners:

    • Remove before eating.  Invisalign clear aligners are not designed to be used for eating.

    • Avoid drinking hot beverages or drinks.  Invisalign clear aligners are made of a thermoplastic material that can be distorted and damaged by heat.

    • Don’t chew gum. Chewing gum can stick to the aligners and damage them.

    • Clean regularly. Invisalign aligners should be cleaned regularly with a very soft toothbrush and a small amount of toothpaste. You can also use cleaning tablets that dissolve in water. Avoid using harsh chemicals.

    • Don’t soak in mouthwash. Soaking Invisalign clear aligners in mouthwash can stain them with the color of the mouthwash.

    • Store in a cool, dry and safe place. Store your Invisalign clear aligners in the case provided when you are not wearing them.
